Hopes high for ‘normal’ agricultural show
Kintyre Agricultural Society has started planning for its annual show.
A highlight in the Kintyre calendar for more than just the farming community, this year’s Kintyre Agricultural Show is scheduled to take place on Friday August 6.
A final decision on what format it will take this year will be made at the end of June. If all restrictions are lifted, it will be as near to normal as possible.
If restrictions are still in place and guidelines allow, it may be possible to hold a livestock and produce show but with no stands, entertainment, dog show and with limited public attendance.
Schedules for entries will be emailed or posted to regular exhibitors and entries in the classes will be restricted to exhibitors resident in Argyll and Bute.
No prize money will be offered this year and only rosettes awarded to class winners. To cut down on travel from outwith the area, all judges will come from within Kintyre Agricultural Society’s membership area.
Judges in place from last year from outwith Kintyre will be asked to judge in 2022 instead.
Stewarding the show in whatever format will require extra help this year and anyone who would be willing to help steward is asked to contact the secretary to register their interest.
A society spokesperson said: ‘The society directors appreciate there will be difficulties along the way and know it may end up that restrictions mean the event will not be possible at all, but it was felt it was worth trying to give our members a chance to exhibit the excellent stock produced in Kintyre.’ For more information or to ask for a schedule, contact Kintyre Agricultural Society secretary John Armour by telephoning 01586 810231 during the day or 01586 552404 in the evening, emailing tirfergus01@btconnect.com or by post to Kintara, Campbeltown, PA28 6PF.
