Milestone moments
I think we can all sympathise with parents who are being forced to miss milestone moments in their children’s lives for whatever reason.
The parents of children at Dalintober Primary School’s Early Learning Centre, who are campaigning for a change in Scottish Government policy, are missing out because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Many people throughout the world will have missed important events, including graduations, weddings and funerals, for the same reason.
These parents appreciate the reasons for restrictions being in place and they know they are not the only ones missing out on things.
They have no gripe with the school, which they described as being like a family, or with the council. Their complaint is with the Scottish Government which appears to place more significance on football matches than celebrating children’s educational development.
A Scottish Government spokesperson told the Courier it knows these ceremonies are important to parents and carers but that it needs to protect children, parents and staff by putting these restrictions in place.
How is it safe for staff to be able to mix with thousands of other football fans but not with 20-odd parents they see every day?
