Bowlers are back

-

Campbeltown Bowling Club’s members have been back to the Stronvaar green to compete in memorial competitions.

On Sunday May 30, 16 teams took part in the Archie Johnston memorial pairs which was sponsored by his son John and daughter Margaret.

The first semi-final was contested by Gary Anderson and Archie Johnston, grandson of the man in whose memory the competition was played, versus brothers Scott and Ryan Mclachlan.

After a tight game, the Mclachlans made it through to the final. The second semi-final was won by John Mclean and Robert Coffield who beat vice president Angus Brodie and his wife Lorraine.

John and Robert built up an unassailable lead early on in the final and went on to win the tournament.

Memorial singles

The following Sunday, the Peninver Sands Holiday Parksponsored Robert McCallum memorial singles took place.

An 11am start and a reduced entry saw two sections battle it out, with the winners of each going through to the final which was contested by John Mclean and Archie Johnston.

After some brilliant bowls, John was triumphant through 9-8 after 10 ends.

A club spokesperson thanked the greenkeeper, bar and kitchen staff and everyone who helped organise and run both competitions.
