Jeff Jeffrey rocks Campbeltown
Rock music fans enjoyed an explosive return to live events when veteran musician Jeff Jeffrey graced the Campbeltown Town Hall stage last Saturday night.
The gig, organised by the newly founded End of The Road Club, marked Jeff's first live performance since the beginning of the pandemic.
Until last weekend, the Paisley-based rocker livestreamed performances on his Facebook page every Saturday for 17 months to keep his fans entertained during lockdown.
Jeff returned to live gigging with a bang; his comedic interaction with members of the audience was almost as impressive as his guitar skills which enthralled the crowd all evening.
He performed a range of rock classics and even adapted his set to cater for requests called out by the crowd.
After the concert, Jeff said: ‘It was brilliant to get out to play a proper gig. I had a cracking time in Campbeltown and was made very welcome by some old pals and loads of good folk from the Wee Toon.’
He was supported on Saturday night by Campbeltown supergroup We.R.Soul which features a horn section.
The nine-piece group performed crowd-pleasing covers from the likes of Whitney Houston, Dolly Parton, Huey Lewis, Peter Gabriel, Bruce Springsteen, Aretha Franklin and Stevie Wonder.
Kenny Blair of the End of the Road Club thanked Jeff and We.R.Soul for their performances as well as everyone who attended.
‘We are bringing live entertainment back to Campbeltown and, if there is enough interest, we hope to organise an event in the town hall every couple of months,’ he said. ‘We are planning to start hosting bingo with a twist, as well as organising an old skool rave and we have our eye on a couple of great tribute bands.
‘The events might not be up everyone's street but we need people to support them to help us bring something they might like in the future.
‘We’re also open to suggestions of acts people want to see – let us know.’
Events which are already planned include a ‘skalloween’ night on October 30, which will combine Halloween and ska music, which is characterised by a walking bass line accented with rhythms on the off-beat.
This will be followed by a visit from Mickey 9s, a Glasgow-based four-piece that combines elements of dance, punk and disco, on November 27.
