Cinema dishes up plans for second ‘Cans’ Film Festival

-

Campbeltown Picture House has dished up plans for a sequel to 2020’s inaugural ‘Cans’ Film Festival.

The event, with its name inspired by the world-famous Cannes Film Festival, was launched two years ago to boost Kintyre Food Bank’s reserves.

Instead of paying for a ticket with money, cinema-goers exchange items for the food bank for a seat. One item equals one ticket but people are welcome to bring more if they wish.

Cans of food, packets of dried goods, toiletries and treats are welcome but people are asked not to bring anything that is out of date or close to it or that will quickly perish.

‘After the generosity of customers at the inaugural ‘Cans’ Film Festival in February 2020, we decided to make it an annual event,’ said cinema manager Ellen Mainwood. ‘We feel now is the right time to bring it back.’

The second festival is due to take place in March, with four screenings of musical classics:

▮ Saturday March 5: The Greatest Showman

▮ Saturday March 12: The Wizard of Oz

▮ Saturday March 19: Encanto

▮ Saturday March 26: Dirty Dancing

Tickets can be booked online at campbeltownpicturehouse.co.uk or at the cinema on Hall Street.

Items for the food bank should be brought along on the day of the screening. More details will be revealed in the run-up to the festival but keep an eye on the cinema’s Facebook page and website for updates.
