Carradale man’s flooding frustration
A Carradale man whose garden floods every time it rains heavily - as it has done for months - has spoken of his frustration at being told by the council that ‘no further action’ is required to fix the issue.
But an Argyll and Bute Council spokesperson told the Courier it was a miscommunication that led to Jamie Campbell being told the blocked drain responsible for the issue had finally been dealt with, and that the council will continue to monitor the situation.
Mr Campbell’s home, which he owns, is located opposite Carradale Community Shop and beside the village fire station, an area known to frequently flood.
‘The drain outside our house is not fit for purpose,’ said Mr Campbell. ‘If there’s any heavy rain at all, it’s backfilling down our drive, into our garden and round the foundations of our house.’
After initially raising the issue with the council, Mr Campbell contacted Kintyre and the Islands councillor Alastair Redman who asked the council’s roads and amenity services department to resolve the matter.
But despite being told that work had been done to try to alleviate the flooding, the problem persisted, leading Mr Campbell to continue calling for a resolution.
He was frustrated to receive an email from the council earlier this month which said ‘no further action’ is required.
The council spokesperson said: ‘We are aware of the issue and have carried out investigation works.
‘Amendments are being made to the system this week and we will continue to monitor it.’
Councillor Redman said: ‘This situation has been dragging on for far too long. I would implore our roads management to get this matter sorted out once and for all. Anything else would be unfair to my constituents in Carradale.’
