Oban Hospice Dove Centre

-

Life-limiting illness can have many challenges for those affected and their relatives. Oban Hospice offers help through its Dove Centre, where valued work continues thanks to the effort and dedication of many people, including a much-appreciated team of volunteers, therapists, Oban Hospice board, and staff. Relaxed and informal, in-person and Zoom groups provide an opportunity for a chat and catch-up. The extremely popular weekly Dove men’s group alternates

between in-person and Zoom. Activities, such as sharing photographs of Old Oban, have proved to be an informative and interesting way of stimulating discussion, while talented local musicians, giving their time freely, frequently entertain. There will also be the resumption of the popular ladies group and Dove Knitters, as well as some exciting new group projects. There is also the Oban Hospice WhatsApp groups, which are a conduit for regular communication, social interaction and support. Therapies services available from the Dove Centre include massage therapy – including specialist cancer massage – counselling, mindfulness/relaxation, Reiki, and Listening Ear, and you’re always welcome to just drop in. Cairdeas Befriending offers a support service delivered by Oban Hospice Ltd in partnership with Highland Hospice. An Oban Hospice spokesperson said: “Our goal is to offer supportive, reliable relationships to people affected by advancing illness, helping them to cope and improve their wellbeing. Feedback for our current services has been overwhelmingly positive, and friendships have grown out of this otherwise difficult year.” Oban Hospice Services are dependent on the support and goodwill of the people in the Oban and North Lorn area. All donations and funds raised are spent helping local people.
