Pupils U13s suffer defeat on home turf

Youngsters punished in poor second half

-

An exciting Glasgow and District Youth Football League game saw Campbeltown Pupils 2009s (under-13s) defeated on home turf at the hands of Glasgow Athletic Blacks.

The Kintyre team started brightly last Sunday, playing some good football, but fell behind after 10 minutes to Athletic’s first real attack.

The visitors doubled their lead soon after, and looked to be taking control, before Jack Green out-sprinted their defence and calmly finished to bring the Pupils back into the match.

The Pupils pressured for an equaliser, but conceded again 10 minutes before half time, this time from a long-range free kick.

Just before half-time, the Pupils pulled themselves back into the game again, following a handball in the penalty box.

Logan Norris stepped up to rifle the ball in and make the score 3-2 at the end of an exciting and evenly-matched first half.

The second half started in the worst possible manner for the locals, conceding after only two minutes.

The rest of the half saw the Pupils battle to try to get back into the game, creating a series of half chances but never fully threatening the Athletic goal.

The pick of the local efforts was a clever run and lob from Jake McEachran, making his debut, which went just wide of the post.

At the other end, the Pupils were punished for some slack play, and Athletic added three further goals, including a penalty, so put a harsh reflection on the final score.

This Sunday, the Campbeltown Pupils 2009s travel to play Finnart 2009s.
