World Day of Prayer: ‘I know the plans I have for you’

The theme of this year’s World Day of Prayer, a global ecumenical movement led by Christian women, is ‘I know the plans I have for you’.

Services are held annually on or near the first Friday in March, and are typically written by women of a different nation or region each year.

The 2022 service, which Campbeltown’s St Kiaran’s Scottish Episcopal Church will observe at 2.30pm on Friday March 4, was written by Christian women of England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

People are invited to join others in prayer and action for peace and justice, to place their trust in God in a time of suffering amid the Covid pandemic.

The service is based on the letter the prophet Jeremiah wrote to exiles in Babylonia, who were in a context of suffering, uncertainty and opposing views on how to respond to the moment. People will come together to hear the stories of women who feel excluded, listen to the fear of a child refugee and learn to see the context of a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural and multi-faith society in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Although organised by women, World Day of Prayer is said to be for everyone – men, women and young people – who will be linked with people around the globe through prayer and action.
