Be of good behaviour, says sheriff

-

An 18-year-old from Campbeltown must show he can be of good behaviour, Sheriff Patrick Hughes ruled at last week’s sitting of Campbeltown Sheriff Court.

Dylan Paul Barnett, of 6 St John’s Terrace, admitted behaving in a threatening and abusive manner, including shouting at his partner.

Procurator fiscal depute James Dunbar said the couple had argued on the afternoon of February 8 this year on Kirk Street, Campbeltown.

‘The accused was in a highly aggressive and agitated state,’ he said. ‘A witness said his partner looked distressed and upset.’

The court was told some of the abusive things Barnett said to his partner.

A letter from Barnett’s doctor was handed to the court.

‘He stopped taking his medication occasionally and this could be one of the reasons why he could have acted in this manner that day; it goes some way to explaining his behaviour,’ said Jane McLaren, Barnett’s defence agent.

She added that the teenager had been ‘petrified when in custody’.

Sheriff Hughes said to Barnett that, given his youth and the fact he was a first time offender, he was ordering him to be of good behaviour for three months and the matter would call again at the court sitting in June. ‘If you do not comply it will go badly for you,’ the sheriff warned.
