Artist Hyman Shapiro

The Campbeltown Courier printed a story in February 2019 about a painting, Village in the Valley, by H Shapiro.

A reader then wrote to you, letting you know that the painting was by Hyman Shapiro and informed you that he had three children.

I am one of Hyman Shapiro’s granddaughters. He had five children, not three.

Before he was married to Gretl, the potter mentioned in the reader’s letter, he had two daughters, Gladys and Ruth, by his first wife, Margaret, who died of tuberculosis.

My mother Ruth, like her father, is a talented artist who has exhibited paintings.
