Active Campbeltown pupils in Strava challenge

-

Pupils from Campbeltown Grammar School have helped a number of secondary schools across Argyll and Bute clock up nearly 10,000 kilometres in the Active Schools Strava Challenge 2022.

The competition, run by the liveArgyll Active Schools and Sports team, encourages pupils to get more active by recording walking, running and wheeling activity when they are out and about in their local areas.

This year, the top three winning schools have received funding towards new sports kit that can be used for physical education classes and extra curricular sport and physical activity clubs and sessions.

For finishing in second place, with an average of 116.5 kilometres completed per pupil, Campbeltown Grammar School will receive £175.

Dunoon Grammar School finished in first place (126.4 kilometres average) and Oban High School was third (79.8 kilometres average).

As well as the overall award for the top three schools, the top performing girl and boy from each participating school have received a Fitbit watch as an individual prize.

At Campbeltown Grammar School, these prizes went to S1 Hannah Gilchrist and, for the second year in a row, S6 Kyle Paterson, who completed more than 250 kilometres between them.

‘Well done to Hannah and Kyle and everyone who has taken part in this year’s challenge throughout some challenging weather conditions,’ said an Active Schools spokesperson.

The Active Schools team is busy working with all secondary schools in Argyll and Bute, with its first ever Indoor Rowing Concept 2 League competition due to take place over the coming months; more information will follow soon.
