Jake at the double

-

Clear blue skies but with a brisk wind made conditions tricky as golfers took to the course at Dunaverty on Saturday to compete for the gents’ March Medal.

The early pace was set by Stuart MacBrayne, playing his first competition for some time, with a creditable nett 67.

This was equalled in the very next match by Willie Ralston, who coped well with the conditions but couldn’t match the inward half of Stuart to sit second.

The early pace-setters were soon to be joined at the top by young Jake MacMillan as he managed to produce a great run in the last five holes to pip Stuart by the better inward half and take his second title in a row.

‘Well done to all who played and huge thanks to head greenkeeper Jonathan Barbour and assistant Campbell MacBrayne for turning the course out in immaculate condition for the time of year,’ said a club spokesperson.

1 Jake MacMillan 80-13=67 (bih), 2 Stuart MacBrayne 77-10=67 (bih), 3 Willie Ralston 85-18=67, 4 Lee Mathieson 70-2=68 (bih), 5 Stevie Garrett 80-12=68, 6 Jim Williamson 85-16=69 (bih).

Lowest gross score on the day went to Lee Mathieson with a cracking 70.
