Campbeltown Pupils 2009s (under-13s) slipped to a tight 3-1 defeat at home to BSC Glasgow (yellows) on Sunday.

The local side started the game well and for the first 20 minutes played a good mixture of possession and direct football.

It was a long through-ball from captain Cohen Campbell that sent Jack Green clear for a great first-time lob over the Glasgow keeper into the net.

Well in control at this point, the Pupils looked likely to score a second, but the youngsters were unable to make a further breakthrough despite some good pressure.

This proved costly, when a misplaced pass-back allowed BSC to equalise with 10 minutes of the half remaining, and the teams went in at halftime all square.

The second half proved a tight affair, with BSC coming back into the game more as the half went on and, although not having many attempts at goal, they started to pin the Kintyre side back.

The Pupils threatened on the break but, midway through the half, they failed to clear a routine corner into the box, and BSC took the lead with a simple finish.

The Pupils battled to get back into the match, but it was BSC who scored a carbon copy goal, again from a corner, to put the game beyond reach; this was another preventable goal from the Pupils’ perspective. Despite the last two weeks’ defeats, there has been a noticeable improvement in the young Pupils’ play and performances, and they will look to build on this for the remaining games of the season.

This Sunday, the Pupils are at home again versus Accies Utd 2009s, with a 12.15pm kick-off.
