Join Mull of Kintyre Sea Adventures and experience the incredible seas around the coast of Kintyre in safe and knowledgeable hands

-

If there is one thing better than the Kintyre countryside, then it has to be seeing this wonderful part of the Argyll landscape from the sea.

Looking inland adds a whole new dimension and makes for a breathtaking experience of land, sea and sky, taking you closer to nature and all our wildlife. Viewing the coastline from the sea, and the seascape itself, is something we should all experience – ask anyone who earns their living on the sea or has their own boat and they will tell you this.

And thanks to Mull of Kintyre Sea Adventures you can discover all this magic for yourself.

The family run business of Haydn and Tracy Chambers, with children Melissa and Aaron joining them when their studies and own careers allow, will be operating at full throttle this summer as Covid restrictions rescind.

The launch of Mull of Kintyre Sea Adventures was low-key, taking place during the pandemic and the Chambers want to thank the community for getting behind their venture and supporting them.

‘The local response has been fantastic,’ Tracy said. ‘We started slowly last August as Covid restrictions were lifted. Kintyre people got behind us right from the start; we have had lots of family parties going out on our trips.

‘There have been plenty of tourists especially families and interest and bookings are coming in steadily for this year.’

Mull of Kintyre Sea Adventures is based out of Campbeltown Harbour and you join the boat on the Campbeltown pontoons. The 9-metre Ribcraft seats 12+2 crew and is powered by twin engine 250 hp outboard and is fitted out with jockey seats.

While Tracy is involved in the ‘backroom’ admin and online booking she also joins skipper Haydn as crewmember, as does Melissa, who is at Strathclyde University reading biochemistry. A former Campbeltown Grammar School pupil she helps run the social media for the business and her hobbies include paddle boarding and wild swimming.

Aaron, who also attended Campbeltown Grammar, is at Nautical College in Glasgow. He spent 3 seasons working for Kintyre Express, where he gained valuable sea time and is currently studying for his third officer’s ticket. This includes placements aboard ship and he is back home now after an amazing voyage five-and-a-half month crossing both the Atlantic and the Pacific. Aaron has his sights set on a deep sea career but will always be on hand to be an extra member of crew when he is at home.

Peter Lusher, formerly boatman for the Isle of Sanda, is also a member of the team. Originally from the fishing port of Cromer he is an experienced sailor a fully-licensed skipper and his nautical career has included work as big game fishing boat skipper in the West Indies.

Licensed skipper Haydn is well-known in Kintyre for his work as full-time skipper for Kintyre Express and as a greenkeeper at Machrihanish Dunes Golf Course.

He began his career in engineering with Reynard Racing Cars and worked for several other precision engineering companies in Oxfordshire before moving to Scotland and perusing a job in the golf industry. This took him to work as an engineer at St Andrews Links Trust.

He has 10 years experience in skippering commercial ribs and 30 years skippering fast boats.

He holds RYA and MCA power boat advanced qualifications, with commercial endorsements. Mull of Kintyre Sea Adventures and its boat are fully coded and compliant with the MCA and fully licensed and insured.

Haydn also attends the High Speed Boat Operations Forum, once in Lisbon hosted by the Portuguese Navy and twice in Gothenburg hosted by the Swedish Navy. The main objective of these seminars is safety and handling of high speed crafts.

Tracy’s work with the Kintyre Link Club and the Dochas Carers Centre means she is also well-know around Kintyre and Mid Argyll.

Mull of Kintyre Sea Adventures works all the year and outwith its tourism activities also carries out commercial work, as a safety boat for fish farms, contractors for the Ministry of Defence and also for the environmental work carried out by the University of Stirling.
