Clean sheet for Pupils U13s in eight-goal spectacular

- GDYFL -U13s, Division 2

Campbeltown Pupils 2009s (under-13s) produced a fantastic display at home last Sunday, in a Glasgow and District Youth Football League clash with Hamilton-based Accies United.

The Kintyre side got off to the best possible start, going 3-0 up in the first five minutes. The first goal was scored by Jake McEachran who reacted quickly to a loose ball in the box to score with a clever overhead volley. Soon after, a penalty box clearance was charged down by Logan Norris, the ball flying into the Accies’ net, quickly followed by a Ryan Johnston cross that was deflected in for an own goal.

Continuous Pupils pressure paid off when Rio Arkell scored a fourth, after unselfish set-up play from McEachran, before a long-distance free kick from Johnston was initially saved by the keeper before squirming over the line. Just before half time, Alan Myles in the Pupils goal tipped away a fine Accies free kick to make the half time score 5-0.

The Pupils played into a strong breeze in the second half, with keeper Myles, the back four of Robert Kerr, Liam Judge, Norris and Harvey Black, and holding midfielder Mason Graham looking to keep Accies at bay for the Pupils’ first clean sheet since moving to 11-a-side.

The Pupils continued to play good football and were rewarded midway through the half with the goal of the game, as Johnston found the top corner from 30 yards for a brilliant goal.

Substitutes Alexander Semple, Finn McCallum and Stuart Conley came on to good effect and goals seven and eight capped off a great team performance. Taylor Purser followed up to slot the ball into the net after a good save, before a great run and fine finish by Jack Green.

The young Pupils play their last home game this Saturday against league leaders Finnart 2009s, with a 12.30pm kick-off.
