Easter fun from the Wee Toon to Southend

Family time at St Blaan’s

The sun came out on Easter Saturday for Southend Parish Church’s coffee morning for Ukraine – and so did the crowds!

Locals and visitors queued to get in to St Blaan’s Hall to enjoy coffee and socialising at the first Southend coffee morning since Covid restrictions began to ease.

There were various stalls and egg decorating, as well as an Easter egg hunt in the garden of St Blaan’s manse.

More than 40 children – and a few adults – took part.

All of this effort was to raise money to help the refugees in Ukraine; people who have been forced out of their homes by the war, and are taking shelter in the west of the country.

‘The Reformed Church of Ukraine is a sister church of the Church of Scotland, and is working hard to bring help and comfort to those people,’ said Reverend Steve Fulcher.

‘And so did the folk of Southend Church, whose efforts raised £1,747.66. All of this money will go to help Ukranians.

‘Very many thanks to everyone who worked so hard on the day, and to all who supported the event.’

An Easter egg hunt in the manse garden was a highlight of the event.

The spring coffee morning got a thumbs up from people of all ages.
