Sophie and Rona lift pairs Argyll Cup

Playing two rounds over as many weekends, 12 ladies competed in Dunaverty Golf Club’s Argyll Cup pairs competition.

An early hail shower at the start of the first round, on Saturday April 9, and a cool wind didn’t deter the enthusiasm of the players.

Linda Arkell and Katie Cappello, in the first group home, set the pace with a score of nett 64. This was bettered in the following group by Sophie Garrett and Rona Young with nett 63.

However, this was equalled by Elizabeth Marrison and Lorna Cook who took joint first place at the end of round one.

The second round, held last Saturday, saw fresh winds and mainly cloudy conditions for the day. Although this did affect some players’ scores, Sophie and Rona managed to maintain their lead, with a combined score of 133 (63 + 70) and took first place.

This was hotly contested by Mairi MacMillan and Linn Coffield, with a score of 134 (66+68) and followed closely by Elizabeth and Lorna with 136 (63+73).

Result: 1 Sophie Garrett and Rona Young, 133 (63+70); 2 Mairi MacMillan and Linn Coffield, 134 (66+68); 3 Elizabeth Marrison and Lorna Cook, 136 (63+73).
