Sale of Kintyre Care Home falls through

- by Hannah O’Hanlon editor@campbeltowncourier.co.uk

A planned sale of Kintyre Care Home has fallen through.

In March last year, HC-One, the UK’s largest care home operator, announced plans to sell 10 of its 57 care homes across Scotland, including the purpose-built home on Hall Street, as part of an overall sale of 52 across the rest of the UK and four closures.

The healthcare provider made the decision in a bid to ‘better meet the current and future care needs of the communities it serves,’ adding that it recognised ‘evolving care needs, including the growing demand for more complex care and dementia care.’

An HC-One spokesperson told the Courier this week that a recent potential sale fell through ‘for reasons outside of its control’, adding the home was now being re-marketed.

‘Like any home sale, there are many factors outside of our control that can mean a sale can’t go forward,’ said the spokesperson.

‘The important point is that we are continuing to fully support the home and its residents and colleagues, and we are re-marketing the home as part of our continued sale efforts.’

Until then, HC-One is continuing to invest ‘significant time and resources’ into trying to find an alternative operator for the home, which can ensure the required continuity of care for residents and the community. The spokesperson added: ‘Our absolute priority is to make sure we continue to deliver the best possible service to the local community, and that residents and colleagues are not impacted by the ongoing search for a new owner.

‘In the face of significant recruitment challenges – which all local care providers are experiencing – we are working closely with our local health and care partners to find a solution that works for all parties.

‘Our priority is to make sure residents and their loved ones continue to receive the high-quality care they need, and that the home can continue to serve the local community for many years to come.

‘This is what we are all working towards.’

A spokesman for Argyll and Bute Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP) said: ‘The HSCP recognises the key role the care home plays in the Campbeltown and Kintyre area and our priority will be to continue to work with HCOne to develop a plan for the longer term sustainability of the care home. We will update residents, their families, the local community and elected members over the coming months as we progress our work.’
