First ferry of season sails into Campbeltown

-

first ferry of the Ardrossan-Campbeltown seasonal service sailed into Campbeltown Loch last Friday evening – just a day later than originally scheduled.

Ferry operator CalMac had previously announced the beginning of the service, scheduled to start on Thursday April 28, would be delayed by a week after the main ferry serving the Isle of Arran was taken out of service for repairs.

But the major technical issue with MV Caledonian Isles' engine was fixed four days ahead of schedule, meaning the MV Isle of Arran was able to begin the Campbeltown service last Friday. ‘Engineers worked on a 24-hour rota to repair MV Caledonian Isles, which had to be taken off the Ardrossan-Brodick route on April 17 when the port main engine developed a technical fault,' said Robbie Drummond, CalMac's managing director.

‘We are extremely thankful to see the return of MV Caledonian Isles four days earlier than expected, and I am very grateful to the CalMac team who worked tirelessly with the team at Dales in Troon and MAN Energy Solutions UK to ensure that repairs were completed ahead of schedule.'
