-

At an open day in celebration of 10 years of community ownership, Machrihanish Airbase Community Company (MACC) will showcase previously unseen historical photographs and memorabilia of the site’s history, ranging from the 1930s.

The memorabilia has been loaned to MACC by Campbeltown Heritage Centre and includes a look at the history of aviation in the area, as well as the ever-present historical links between the military and the local community.

MACC thanks Campbeltown Heritage Centre for the memorabilia and invites the community to take the opportunity to view the collection at the Officers Mess at the business park from 10.30am to 4pm tomorrow (Saturday).

Visitors can also enjoy a tour of the site and learn about the communities’ achievements so far and plans for the future.

There will be hourly guided mini-bus tours from 11am and self-guided walking tours throughout the day; bookings for the minibus tours can be made via Eventbrite. The official opening of the newly refurbished Argyll College facility by Jenni Minto MSP will be held at 10.30am.
