A step in the right direction

-

Seeing five-year-old Lyle MacLean’s joy when using the swing his mum Iona worked so tirelessly to have installed is priceless... although the swing certainly was not.

It is amazing to live in a community where the £25,000 purchase and installation costs were met in a relatively short time by the generosity of individuals and organisations.

However, as Iona said, all children and young people deserve to experience the wonders of playparks, regardless of their abilities, and this is not something parents should have to campaign for.

Hopefully, with an increase in awareness, the needs of children of differing abilities will be considered when upgrades to all Kintyre’s playparks are carried out.

Councillor Donald Kelly, who backed Iona’s campaign from the start, intends to continue pushing for more inclusive play equipment across South Kintyre.

Congratulations to him and the area’s other newly-elected councillors, John Armour and Tommy Macpherson, as well as Kintyre and the Islands’ new councillors Dougie McFadzean, John McAlpine and Robin Currie.

We hope they can work together to better their wards.
