Cala tune in to ceilidh

-

Festival Ceilidh night, featuring some of Scotland’s best ceilidh and concert bands, has become a family favourite at the annual Mull of Kintyre Music Festival (MOKFest).

This year will be no exception, with one of the best up-and-coming bands on the Scottish scene, Cala, performing the concert set. Cala are a young, traditional band mainly based in Inverness. Following the success of their debut single Causeway in late 2020, the band will release their debut album this year.

They have evolved their sound with line-up, choice of instruments and stylistic changes, with an attention to detail in arranging and writing that creates Cala’s unique spin on Scottish trad – a fresh, full and exciting sound.

Cala will perform between Fiobha Ceilidh Band and the Dalriada Connections Band, a selection of local and visiting musicians from Northern Ireland, USA and the pan-Celtic nations, joined by students and tutors from Campbeltown Grammar School, who come together each year to perform at the Festival Ceilidh night.

The five-piece Fìobha Ceilidh Band provides the full ceilidh experience, with a modern energetic flare.

This is the first time the band has played at MOKFest. The festival also welcomes back Kintyre Schools Pipe Band to open the concert, following a performance at the head of the Old Quay.

Tickets for all of this year’s concerts, which also feature Elephant Sessions, Trail West, Aly Bain and Phil Cunningham, Brian McNeill, Calum Alex MacMillan with Ross Martin, Slainte Davaar Allstars and more are available from AP Taylor on Campbeltown’s Main Street and online at www.ticketweb.com.

Festival organisers can be contacted by emailing mokfest@hotmail.co.uk.
