Getting the facts on fish photograph

A Campbeltown man was pleased to see a 70-year-old photograph of his father in last week’s From Our Files feature but noticed he had been given the wrong name, writes Hannah O’Hanlon.

Ronald J Roberts said: ‘I was pleased to see the recognition of the stocking of the Lussa Reservoir with brown trout in 1952 in last week’s Courier, as my father put a great deal of effort into firstly getting the Hydro Board to allow it and then getting them to pay for the fish.

‘It is true that you can indeed see the very top of my father’s head behind Bernard Johnstone as he launches the first Howietoun Loch Leven fingerlings, but his name was not Archibald.

‘All the eldest sons of the family are Ronald or Ranald in honour of their McKenzie ancestors. My father was Ronald.’

He shared another photograph, taken the same year, but this time at Auchalochy, where a deputation of councillors and Kintyre Angling Club members met when the council agreed to stock it with fish.
