Midwifery matters at Campbeltown Hospital
Student midwife Emma Nuttall recently spent six weeks learning all there is to know from the experienced midwifery team at Campbeltown Hospital.
From East Ayrshire, Emma is in her first year studying midwifery at the University of West of Scotland.
Campbeltown Hospital offers midwifery students the opportunity to learn more about the continuity of care services available in a rural setting.
During her placement, Emma was involved in a variety of different areas of midwifery, including antenatal and postnatal visits, pregnancy screening, hypnobirthing support and perinatal mental health support.
Midwifery students are also involved in family-centred care which involves providing support focusing on the well-being of parents-to-be and their families.
‘Thank you to the whole midwifery team,' Emma said. ‘Everyone made me feel very welcome and were so supportive.
‘It's been really good to put the practical skills we're learning on our course into practice while learning more about healthcare in Argyll and Bute.'
Campbeltown-based midwife Charlotte Morbey has recently taken up the new role of midwifery practice education facilitator across Argyll and Bute.
Charlotte builds links in higher education and works closely with midwife supervisors to help midwifery students gain invaluable experience while on placement.
She said: ‘It's been great to welcome midwifery students including Emma to Argyll and Bute.
‘Midwifery support here is so special; it's a small, hard-working team that works closely with parentsto-be and their families at every stage of their journey.'
