Lindsay to embark on second charity ‘Walk at Westport’

-

Following the success of last year’s ‘Walk at Westport’ in memory of her father, Campbeltown woman Lindsay Ramsay is holding a second sponsored walk for Macmillan Cancer Support.

On May 15 last year, South Kintyre Active Schools co-ordinator Lindsay walked 50 kilometres back and forth across Westport beach to honour the memory of her late father, Bob Owen, who died the year before.

She set herself the challenge of walking Westport car park to Machrihanish Burn and back – a distance of about 10 kilometres – five times on what would have been her dad’s 76th birthday weekend.

She invited people to join her for the full walk or as many or few sections as they wanted and was overwhelmed by the number who turned out to support her.

She hoped to raise £750 in the process but actually raised more than £7,000.

‘After the success of last year’s Walk at Westport and the community support shown to raise funds for this vital service, I have decided we should do it again,’ she said.

‘This time there is no big challenge, just the opportunity to bring the community together to complete as much or as little of the walk as they wish, while enjoying a blether with friends and family.’

This year, there will be three departure times from Westport car park on Friday June 3, 9am, 11.30am and 2pm, with people being asked to meet 15 minutes before the departure times.

‘If you’re looking for something to do before your Jubilee celebrations start, please come along and support this fantastic charity,’ Lindsay said.
