Pupils’ home defeat blow as losing streak continues

- Campbeltown Pupils Rossvale Academy WoSFL - Division Four 1 4

Campbeltown Pupils continue to toil at home and are without a win since the opening day of the season after a 4-1 defeat last Saturday to Rossvale Academy.

The Pupils were edged out by two goals either side of half time, and a second-half penalty for the hosts was a mere consolation.

After the teams played out a tight 3-2 match the previous week, the Pupils only losing to a late goal with 10 men, there was hope that the reverse fixture would bear fruit for the home side.

And there was early encouragement as the Feathers Innsponsored Pupils enjoyed decent possession and some attempts on goal.

But the first goal arrived after a stray pass across the edge of the box in the Pupils backline was picked up by the visitors’ number 11, who lifted a shot beyond Alasdair Ferguson in the Pupils goal.

It was 2-0 only two minutes later when the same player, after seeing his initial shot blocked, gathered the ball and whipped a low shot in below the home keeper’s grasp.

Another two goals in the second half, Rossvale’s third coming from a breakaway attack, and the fourth from a header from a corner which found its way over the line, put paid to any Pupils hopes of a comeback, as they had done from two goals down the previous week.

The McFadyens-sponsored Pupils replied through Calum Ellis from the penalty spot, who was taken down after latching on to Rhys

Casci’s pass. The Pupils’ match v Rossvale was sponsored by Archie Johnston, steel fabricator and welding contractor.

The Pupils will look to pick up some precious league points tomorrow (Saturday) when they travel to take on Harmony Row, at McKenna Park, Govan, in Glasgow's southside.

Kick off is 1.30pm.
