Pupils lose 3-0 at home to St Peter’s

- Campbeltown Pupils St Peter’s WoSFL – Division Four 0 3

Campbeltown Pupils made a bright start against St Peter’s last Saturday but were eventually overpowered by a visiting side gunning for promotion.

The McFadyens-sponsored Pupils had an early chance when Liam Renton was put through on goal but his left-footed effort was saved by the opposing keeper.

Despatched

St Peter’s scored midway through the first half when an inviting cross from the right-hand side was despatched into the net with a header back across goal despite the efforts of Pupils defender Craig Johnstone to clear it off the line.

The Pupils went 2-0 down early in the second half when a ball bounced back off the bar and the visitors’ number seven pounced to side foot a low shot into the net at the second time of asking.

It got worse for the Pupils when St Peter’s took advantage of a breakdown in a Pupils attack to counter-attack, and marched through into the home side’s penalty area where a ball was turned across goal for the St Peter’s captain Dempsey to score into an unguarded net. The Pupils were then reduced to 10 men when Calum Ellis saw red for a rash tackle on an opposing player.

Despite the deficit in numbers, the Feathers Inn-sponsored Pupils’ Scott Souden almost grabbed a consolation goal for the Pupils.

Tireless effort

But after turning inside on his right foot in the box, his effort past the keeper was cleared off the line at the last by a defender, which would have been just reward for the players after his tireless effort on the day.

The Pupils will need to pick themselves up again for another important home league clash tomorrow (Saturday) against Easterhouse FA. Kick off at Kintyre Park is 2pm. Visit @PupilsAFC on Twitter or Campbeltown Football on Facebook for more details.
