Pain and wellbeing roadshow comes to Campbeltown
Sufferers of chronic pain were given tips and advice on how to manage their suffering when a pain and wellbeing roadshow came to Campbeltown.
Organised by Versus Arthritis in conjunction with the Argyll and Bute Healthy Living Partnership, the event at Argyll Bowling Club last Thursday was open to anyone living with pain.
Despite the debilitating impact of conditions that cause chronic pain, which often prevent people from being able to work, socialise, care for their family or even move freely, some are unaware of the help and support that is available to them locally. That is exactly what the roadshow aimed to change, with a mix of speakers, workshops and stalls about local support and wellbeing organisations during the drop-in from 12pm to 4pm.
Stallholders included Argyll and Bute Health and Social Care Partnership, ShopperAide, Mid Argyll’s MS Centre, Lomond and Argyll Advocacy Service as well as Versus Arthritis itself.
As well as presentations by Argyll and Bute Council welfare rights officer Susan Tuite and physiotherapist
Peter McCallum, there were physical activity workshops on qi gong, laughter yoga, pilates for arthritis and mindfulness, among other things.
Versus Arthritis regional officer Michaela Brown, who was joined at the event by fellow regional officer Maggie Clark and Scottish programme and partnership manager Jake Sanders, said afterwards that the event was very well received, with some attendees already asking when the next one will be held.
She added: “I think it’s great to have the opportunity to bring information and workshops like this to the Campbeltown community and I look forward to what Versus Arthritis, as a charity, can bring to small communities around Argyll and Bute with this roadshow and with future events.
“It was great to see different organisations getting together to assist those who need it.”
The roadshow will be in various Argyll and Bute towns over the next few months, with some virtual sessions planned.
