“A much welcome sight of more prime cattle being around which sold out and yet again produced tremendous values for cattle from near and far. More are still required however to keep up with the unpreceden­ted demand,” said a spokespers­on.

Old season lambs (745) averaged 250.4p (+22.6p) and sold to 275.0p per kg for a pen of 45.5kg Beltex Crosses from Shoreton Farm, Culbokie and £132 gross for a 50kg Texel Cross from Raitcastle Farm, Nairn.

SQQ lambs 25.5kg to 45.5kg (497) averaged 253.7p (+22.1p).

Feeding sheep (375) sold to £270 gross for a Texel Ewe from Wester Raddery, Fortrose.

“A much-needed boost for prime sheep vendors was had as all classes rocketed in value.

“It was one of the leanest shows of ewes seen in Dingwall for a long time. An influx of lean, weathered hill ewes graced us with their presence today, cashing in at recent rates. Heavy ewes were near non existent, however like the northern lights brightenin­g up the sky line in came a weight bag of a Texel ewe from Mr P Gill, Wester Raddery, which cashed in at £270 after a ferocious frenzy of bidding,” said a spokespers­on.
