Escape to the museum for a day of family fun
Culture, heritage and arts collective CHARTS has joined forces with leisure services charity liveArgyll to host an afternoon of family fun at Campbeltown Museum in honour of Earth Day.
They are joining hundreds of UK museums and schools in celebrating UK wildlife and creativity as part of the Art Fund's Wild Escape initiative.
People are invited to join them in Campbeltown tomorrow, on Earth Day (Saturday April 22), for a fun family event celebrating the fantastic creative responses to the wildlife collection at the museum.
As part of the Wild Escape project, CHARTS project worker Muriel MacKaveney and lead artist Kirsten Millar invited three Kintyre schools to explore Campbeltown Museum's taxidermy collection.
The youngsters also enjoyed talks from local historian Angus Martin and Nancy Stewart, a master's ecology student at the University of Glasgow.
Each school was given a creative pack that is still available for download at https:// www.chartsargyllandisles. org/campbeltown-museum/ wild-escape and materials to produce a creative response to the wildlife that captured their imagination.
“CHARTS now invites you to help us celebrate the wonderful work created,” said a spokesperson.
“Join us from 11.30am to 2pm at Campbeltown Museum tomorrow, to see the special edition magazine featuring all creative responses from the Wild Escape, ranging from painting to poetry created by each school pupil.”
The CHARTS Wild Escape family fun day at Campbeltown Museum is free to attend, and no booking is required. Artist Lori Silvan, also known as Funky Chicken, will also be holding a bird nest making workshop, providing materials for families to work together to create a bird's nest out of willow, twigs, dried grass, feathers, moss and wool, helping youngsters to learn more about natural habitats.
