Folk singer set to turn heads and hearts at MOK festival

-

This year’s Mull of Kintyre Music Festival (MOKFest) Dalriada Connections Concert audience is in for a treat as two headline acts will showcase some of the best instrumentals and vocals on the Scottish folk scene.

The concert, in Campbeltown Heritage Centre on Sunday August 13, headlines with award-winning singer Mairi Campbell who will perform before Archie McAllister and Sileas Sinclair take to the stage with a rousing set on fiddle and piano.

They will be joined by local and visiting musicians including Lorne MacDougall, Ciaran Mulholland and Ross Conner.

Mairi is a pioneering figure in Scottish music, turning heads and hearts with her music. Her solo concert sets range from traditional ballads to contemporary songs and improvisations.

Masterfully weaving voice, viola, storytelling and improvisation, Mairi captivates audiences by the power and simplicity of her voice, musicianship and stage presence.

She is the recipient of six national music awards and was inducted into the Scottish Traditional Music Hall of Fame in 2019 and in 2008.

Her version of Auld Lang

Syne was used in the hit Sex and the City movie following a live performance with Dave Francis.

This afternoon concert is a firm festival favourite and the organisers thank Glengyle Distillery for once again supplying a free Kilkerran Single Malt miniature for all attendees.

Tickets for this year’s concerts, involving Skipinnish, The Fiona Hunter Trio, Kathleen MacInnes with Mike Vass, Skara Ceilidh Band, Mairi Campbell, Archie McAllister with Sileas Sinclair, Slainte Davaar Allstars and Kintyre Schools Pipe Band, are available from AP Taylor, Main Street, Campbeltown, and online at www.mokfest.com/tickets.
