Pairs tee off for competitions at Dunaverty club
Golfers took to the course at Dunaverty in droves for a weekend of pairs competitions last Saturday and Sunday.
The annual Amod MacNeill gents’ pairs competition, played in a Texas scramble format, took place on Saturday.
Thirty players in 15 pairs set off on a perfect day for golf, on a course that was in immaculate condition thanks to the hard work of greenkeepers Campbell MacBrayne and Jonathan Barbour.
Scoring was tight but it was the pair of Kenneth Johnstone and Robert (Peachy) MacKay who emerged victorious by just half a shot on the day to take the magnificent trophy.
Result: 1 Kenneth Johnstone and Robert MacKay 657.7=57.3, 2 John Brown and Neil Barlow 65-7.2=57.8, 3 Ian Bailey and Stuart McAlister 63-4.2=58.8.
Following the gents’ pairs on Saturday, the Robertson/ MacVicar mixed foursomes was held on Sunday.
This was the second playing of the new competition in the calendar to commemorate the contribution made to Dunaverty Golf Club by Belle Robertson MBE and the late Jock MacVicar over numerous years.
Again played in a scramble format, 40 players – 20 gents and 20 ladies – set off in fine spirits with the weather holding fair.
Emerging victorious on the day were David MacBrayne and club steward Moyra Paterson, who returned a fine nett 60 to pip the field with five pairs within one shot of each other.
“Thanks to Moyra and her staff at The Putt Stop for the hospitality and fine foods served on the day and for managing a packed clubhouse for the presentation, where the audible buzz of chatter epitomised the character which makes Dunaverty such a great place to be,” said a club spokesperson.
Result: 1 David MacBrayne and Moyra Paterson 7111.0=61.0, 2 John Martin and Elizabeth Marrison 68-7.5=60.5, 3 Robert Irvine and Maureen Johnstone 68-7.2=60.8.
