Maureen wins first Mary Meenan memorial title
Up against 16 ladies in Campbeltown Bowling Club’s annual Mary Meenan memorial singles competition, Maureen MacInnes won the title for the first time.
After a lot of great games last Sunday afternoon, the semi-finals saw Catherine McEachran take on Susan Gilchrist, and Maureen up against Lorraine Brodie, with Catherine joining Maureen in the final.
Maureen took a healthy lead in the first few ends, and Catherine could not pull back.
“Well done to Maureen who was delighted to win the competition for the first time,” said a club spokesperson.
Club president Robert Coffield presented the prizes and thanked everyone for their contribution throughout the day.
The weather could not have been kinder to more than 60 supporters of the Mairi Semple Cancer Fund who walked from Westport to Machrihanish last Sunday afternoon.
Despite horrendous wind and rain in the days before and after, the sun shone throughout the annual sponsored five-mile walk along the beach.
Participants were invited to enjoy tea, coffee and cakes at Machrihanish Village Hall after the event, with the refreshments very much welcomed by all.
The charity’s committee members are delighted with the success of this year’s walk, which raised a total of £1206.76, and thanked all involved for helping them to support Kintyre residents suffering from cancer with financial aid.
A spokesperson said: “We would like to thank everyone who came out and walked and enjoyed afternoon tea, as well as HM Coastguard, Valerie Graham for her help with the hall, Emma Mathieson of Dream Believe Hope Crafts for donating raffle prizes, the
Parkers who came along with their daughter India and her friend Esmie McLean to sell loom bracelets in aid of the fund, and Dougal MacFarlane who raised £300 for the fund by completing the walk.”
