Carradale Coastal Creatives art group takes shape
Magic happens when people come together to create art, writes Carradale’s Sarah Moorcroft.
There is an uncertainty at first, a holding back, then someone reaches out to touch the paint, a brush is tentatively dipped into a pot, then another, a finger squeezes a drop of brightly coloured acrylic and draws it out on the clean blank white surface until a pattern emerges.
There is a lot of white canvas, and no one wants to mess it up. Bit by bit, people become bolder, paint is poured, a scraper is used to squish the paint, creating a pattern, a kaleidoscope of colour.
Some brave person mixes three or four colours in a cup, swirls it a little, drips it. Now there are extraordinary shapes, textures, glossy swirls of colour lying thick.
Someone else is dipping leaves into a pot, using them like stencils.
Another is playing with the paint, is that finger painting? White paint is splattered, creating wonderful star bursts of light on the darker colours.
Slowly at first, but gathering pace, structure, formality, rules are broken down, and laughter starts to emerge, appreciative approval at both the act of creating and what has been created.
A group is forming, people who like art. Some would like to be artists, some already are. People who love sharing, who want others to feel the freedom and mindfulness that comes from creating art together. A fun place where everyone is learning together.
Carradale Coastal Creatives is a new group for people who enjoy making art, value coming together to share ideas, ask questions, to learn and to try new techniques.
Members meet on the last Monday of each month in the main room at Carradale Village Hall.
