CMC Hembil Drift campervan now available on Renault

Concept Multi-car (CMC) has unveiled the Renault version of its popular Drift model in its Hembil range. Previously, this conversion was only available on the Volkswagen Transporter. Unusually, the Hembil Drift has an ingenious kitchen that swings out through a second sliding door on the offside to enable al fresco cooking and maximise space inside the vehicle. The hinged section of the kitchen includes a glass-topped double-burner hob and a sink with automatic tap, while to the rear of the sliding door (in the fixed part of the furniture) is a 26-litre top-loading compressor fridge.

The galley in the Renault Drift is virtually identical to the VW version, as is the Reimo sliding rear seat system with three seatbelts. Spec also includes a Reimo elevating roof or an insulated high-top, a gas locker for a Campingaz 907 cylinder, an 80Ah second battery and mains hook-up, Votronic electrical charging system and control panel, and energy efficient LED interior lighting.

Sam Shortland at CMC commented,

“I’ve been really keen to extend our Hembil conversion range, so it covers VW, Ford and Renault base vehicles. I think the Renault Trafic makes a great camper and offers that little bit more room than the VW and also a massive saving, typically around £10k.”

The Renault Drift is based on a Trafic Sport in either short-wheelbase SL28 form (from £49,950 with the 120dci engine), or on the long-wheelbase van for an additional £2,500. Engine upgrades to 145 or 170bhp are available, as is the new EDC automatic transmission. The Trafic Sport includes a high standard spec, including trip computer, automatic lights and wipers, manual air-conditioning, leather steering wheel, premium dashboard, metallic paint, heated mirrors, 17in alloy wheels, cruise control, ESC, rear parking sensors, front fog lights, and body-coloured front bumpers and door mirrors. Base vehicle options include an alarm, climate control, heated front seats and a reversing camera.

There are options to upgrade the Hembil Drift conversion, too, such as a roof bed, diesel heating and leather upholstery.

The first Renault-based Drift campervan has already been sold to a customer who, Sam says, “loved our Drift conversion, based on the VW T6.1, but realised that the

Renault, from a price point, was a very attractive option. (The same spec on a VW would be around £65-£67k).”

Following the successful launch of the new Renault Drift, CMC will also make its newly developed Urban S available on the Trafic base vehicle as well as the VW T6.1. Ford Transit Custom versions of the Drift and Urban S are also being developed.
