DAY 5 BORDER RAID
Close to the Scottish border, there are medieval castle ruins surrounding Berwickupon-Tweed and a fascinating heritage trail. Berwick Barracks is an 18th century military
base, with exhibitions offering insight into the life of the British infantry from the Civil War to the First World War.
If you’re more interested in art, you might enjoy Berwick Museum and Art Gallery next door. It has a fascinating recreation of the medieval town and you’ll learn about the people who lived there. Admire artwork from the magnificent Berwick Burrell Collection, which includes work by the masters, ancient Roman and Venetian glass, Japanese Imari ware and Ming porcelain. There’s a gallery of contemporary art and interactive fun for the kids, too.
