Keeping an eye on the canalside criminals

Canal Boat - - Letters - K Richards

Can I ask for greater vigilance along our waterways as it appears that we are in the midst of a crimewave. It is clear that police resources on our roads and high streets has been reduced. Some commentators have suggested that the number of police officers has plummeted to a record low while reported crime is on the increase. At a recent social gathering of liveaboards and holiday cruisers, it became clear that there are many victims out there. Be it thefts from boats (and don’t forget the valuable equipment we store on board) or simply harassment from the towpath after we’ve turned in, we must all be cautious. A sad state of affairs but solidarity and a watchful eye is needed. Raise the alarm for your neighbour too at the first suspicious signs
