Breach hits win­ter work

The £2 to 3m worth of work needed to re­pair the breach in the Mid­dlewich Arm of the Shrop­shire Union Canal near Mid­dlewich is lead­ing to cuts on other work planned for this win­ter - no­tably ma­jor work on the ap­proach em­bank­ment to the Lan­caster Canal’s Lune Aque­duct. How­ever most of the win­ter pro­gramme sur­vives un­scathed, in­clud­ing re­build­ing a lock wall Hurleston which has been stop­ping some boats over 6ft 10in wide from ac­cess­ing the Llangollen.
