Liz and Andrew Ford have a long boating history, as they first started going on boating holidays as children. They hired when they had a family of their own, and then four years ago bought a share in a boat managed by a private syndicate. Sensibly, they wanted to really get to know about the ins and outs of boat ownership.
When it came to having a boat of their own, they looked at buying second hand, but couldn’t find anything they really liked. In addition, converting an existing boat to hybrid drive looked impossible in most cases because there’s not enough room in the engine hole.
Both Andrew and Liz are now retired, Andrew from the Royal Fleet Auxiliary, and Liz from the clinical trials unit at Plymouth University. They plan to set out on their new boat after Easter, and not return until October.
