How long have you been a live­aboard?

21 years.

What is your cur­rent boat?

My 60ft nar­row­boat Tansy

How many boats have you owned?

Just two.

What led you to canals?

My fam­ily had a lit­tle river cruiser on the Nene.

Do you have a favourite part of the coun­try from the wa­ter?

The Lea & Stort, Thames, Ken­net and Avon, but ev­ery­where has its mo­ments.

What do you think the net­work needs? Pro­tec­tion... the Ken­net and Avon, for ex­am­ple, needs more main­te­nance and more love.

Are you a con­tin­u­ous cruiser?

Yes, it suits a rov­ing trader.

What was the in­spi­ra­tion for your busi­ness?

I saw other trade boats at Cro­predy Folk fes­ti­val one year and that re­ally got me think­ing.

How long have you been trad­ing?

More than six years.

Where do you trade?

At canal events and float­ing mar­kets or pop­ping up solo... In Lon­don, Berkham­sted, Rick­mansworth, up towards Birm­ing­ham, the Ox­ford canal and the Ken­net and Avon (which is where we’ll be this Au­tumn).

How do you at­tract the pun­ters?

The events are usu­ally busy, but with­out them so­cial me­dia has been the way. Face­book, In­sta­gram and Twit­ter, fol­low us at @there­cord­deckuk

Any trends among the discs?

Not re­ally, peo­ple are won­der­fully eclec­tic with their tastes.

Ever come across a rar­ity?

Yes plenty, it’s usu­ally some­thing folky or proggy, in the cir­cles I keep any­way. Dr Strangely Strange?

Any plans for ex­pan­sion?

No, I’m happy with how it works, eas­ily man­aged.

What has been your big­gest task?

Keep­ing the stock, dry and/or out of the sun!

What was the first sin­gle you bought?

Love to say some­thing cool, but I’m pretty sure it was The Frog Cho­rus .

How has Covid-19 hit you?

The can­celled events of 2020 have been greatly missed, from a trad­ing per­spec­tive and for the vibes and so­cial as­pects too.

Have you ever fallen in?

Fully sub­merged... five times at least.

Prob­a­bly a Bea­tle.

The power to cease a head­wind.
