Heated seats

-

The heated leather seats in my 2002 Rover 45 2.0 turbodiesel have never worked since I bought the car. I have checked the fuse and power to the fuse, and when I push either the driver or passenger seat buttons the light on the button comes on. There are two connectors that I can see under each seat. With the engine running and seat button pressed on, there is no power to the bigger of the two connectors, but the standard probe tip on my multimeter is too big to fit into the smaller connector.

I was thinking it could be the relays at fault, but don’t know where they are. Online Rover forums specify that the relays are part number YWB000440 and are located at R5 and R7 in the passenger side fusebox inside the car. However, my fusebox is located on the driver’s side, next to the steering wheel, and looks nothing like the layout of the passenger side. Derek Swan As you have helpfully sent me a picture of your fusebox, I can confirm that this is not the one containing the relays in position R5 and R7. The fusebox in your vehicle does not contain the heated seat relays – they are fitted separately to a bracket located near the base of the A-post under the driver’s footwell, just behind and slightly above the fusebox. The fuse for the heated seats is number 2 in the fusebox. I am assuming you have already checked this and, as the switches illuminate, I would not expect this to have failed.

Once you have located the relays, it will be possible to check the feed to and from the relays, then the continuity between the relay and the wiring beneath the seats. You should also check the earth points – one will be close to the relays, with a further one under each seat.
