Brake light switch swap

-

The brake light switch on this 1998 Peugeot 306 had failed and the owner asked us to replace it because access to the switch is awkward. The switch is hidden from view and, if you take the advice of the internet, the dash has to be stripped out, along with the driver’s air vent and switch panel.

Actually, even with the air vent and switch panel removed, the brake light switch is still not easy to access. The quickest way turns out to be what originally seems to be the longest: undo the two bolts securing the steering column and lower the column slightly. Using this method, the switch can be changed without fumbling around and any resulting scratches from trying to manoeuvre through the obstacle course of dash brackets.

?? ?? Removing the air vent and switch panel still does not give easy access to the brake light switch.
