Fault code reader

-

Can you recommend a fault code reader for a 2015 BMW 520d F11 Touring and a 2005 Corsa SXI 1.2 petrol, although there is a good chance the latter vehicle will be swapped in the future for something a lot newer and probably petrol? I am not expecting too much to go wrong, so I don’t need anything too professional – maybe a device that will read and reset fault codes and perhaps reset service lights. Melvyn Allen

There are a few options and the main factors to consider are whether you wish to reset the service lights on your BMW and, of course, which vehicle will replace your Corsa.

The Foxwell NT510 Full Systems Scanner at £169 will cover all systems on your BMW and will reset the service lights, but its all-round abilities are restricted to BMW and MINI. It will read off codes from any Eobd-compliant vehicle, which will cover any petrol vehicle from 2001 onwards and any diesel from 2004 onwards. Alternately, the Foxwell NT204 Diagnostic Scan Tool for £49.94 will read and clear all fault codes from Eobd-compliant vehicles, but will not reset your service lights or read the ABS or airbag systems.

For something which will cover more systems on both vehicles, the Foxwell Pro NT624 ALL System Scan Tool at £299 should be just about all you will need.
