Programming remote key
My granddaughter received two keys with the 2005 smart fortwo cabriolet she bought recently. One remote works fine, but the other one probably needs a new battery. If we replace the battery will the remote need to be synchronised with the car?

As the system does work with one key, replacing the battery on the second key should restore its operation. If the problem is more than a failed battery, the keys can only be reprogrammed using diagnostic equipment. Before replacing the battery, ensure that the second key will operate the ignition and start the engine, which will confirm whether the immobiliser chip has been affected.
