OIL & FILTER

7 REMOVE UNDERTRAY

Access to the oil drain plug requires the engine undertray to be removed, which also helps with inspecting other areas of the underside. The undertray should be secured with a series of 10mm and Torx bolts (T27-30), depending on whether they have been replaced in the past.

8 DRAIN ENGINE OIL

Have a six-litre container ready to collect the old engine oil. Undo and remove the 13mm sump plug, then leave the oil to drain for 10 minutes. Release the filler cap in the engine bay to help drain the engine oil. After draining, refit the sump plug.

9 RENEW OIL FILTER

Undo the oil filter housing with a 27mm socket. Renew the filter and the rubber O-ring on the thread of the housing – add a smear of oil to the new O-ring to prevent it catching and tearing. Refit the housing, tightening it to 25Nm.

10 TOP UP OIL

Measure out 5.8 litres of 5W-30 fully-synthetic oil (low ash), then pour this into the engine. Run the engine for a few seconds to make sure the oil pressure warning light doesn’t remain illuminated. Switch off, then inspect around the drain plug and the oil filter for leaks.

11 CHECK THE OIL LEVEL

Do not run the engine or switch on the ignition for 15 minutes. To check the oil level, switch on the ignition after this time (do not run the engine) and operate the controls for the instrument display until a reading appears for the engine oil level. If the message refers you to the handbook, wait another 15 minutes before checking the oil level again. Top up if necessary.
