AFL TROUBLE

1 The AFL lamp warning that appears on the dashboard of our Insignia is an MOT failure point. AFL stands for adaptive forward lighting, which helps to direct the headlights when turning at slow speed. We needed to know more about the problem before we could resolve it. 2 Dan Smith at MJ Motors plugged in his Launch diagnostic equipment to help identify the Afl-related fault that had been raised. The problem was narrowed down to the lighting circuit for the left (nearside) headlamp. We turned the steering to the left with the engine running and discovered a small bulb inside the headlamp hadn’t illuminated. 3 The bulb in question was extracted from the back of the headlight. It’s a complete unit, including the bulb holder, so we ordered a new one from a local motor factor. The AFL system also moves the headlights in the direction of the steering.
