Headlamp switch

-

I am trying to help an elderly friend get his 1992 Ford Sierra MKIII 2.0i auto ready for its MOT. One thing that is proving problematic is the indicator/headlamp stalk, which has failed completely on the left-hand and only flashes three or four times on the right-hand. We sought a replacement online, but although it fits perfectly, it operates slightly differently – the original stalk provides headlamp flash when pulled and switches the headlamps on when pushed, whereas the replacement only controls the indicators.

Despite having registered with a few web-based component locators, it looks as if obtaining an exact replacement stalk is going to be problematic, so I was considering whether the original item could be repaired? Is there a company that specialises in renovating electrical controls? Steve Barber I am afraid I know of no company that could repair the switch, although perhaps one of our readers might have a suggestion.

As the switch does operate partially, I would suggest using an electrical switch cleaner – such as this one,

http://bit.ly/2emts2t – in the switch, which may help clear what is possibly just a dirty connection. The other option is to put in a parts request with the

fordpartsuk.com website. They use Edix, the award-winning Ford European obsolete part locator, to source parts that are unavailable from your local dealer.
