Clutch Clinic: Peugeot 207 1.4 8v

Car Mechanics (UK) - - Contents -

The Peugeot 207 is a cheap-to-run family hatchback, but the original 70,000-mile clutch on this example was starting to slip when more than half-throttle was applied to the throttle pedal, sending revs rising – not good on motorways with hills.

Space to work on the front-wheel drive 207 is at a premium, but there’s enough to be able to extract the gearbox. A removable chassis leg and lower strut brace should be unbolted to create more room, but as Fengate MOT Station demonstrated, two people can squeeze themselves into position and manoeuvre out the gearbox. They used a transmission jack to support the gearbox when removing it, so there’s none of the usual lifting and straining involved.

GSF Car Parts supplied the kit for this clutch renewal. Set aside three or four hours to complete all of the work.
