IN THE FINAL ANALYSIS
The Ford Fiesta Mk7 has been pretty well reviewed by the press and has been a perennial best-seller. Are they as good as you’ve heard? Overall, yes. They’re undoubtedly well built and corrosion-resistant, with just a few minor scabs on ours due to neglect. The gearbox does the usual Ford growl from the bearings under load at low speeds, but that’s to be expected.
Although the handling is superb, the ride is very noisy over poor roads, and if you like a car that can get a move on then you’ll despair at the 1.25. Once up and going, though, it’s OK.
So while the 1.25 is perfectly fine for buzzing around town, on balance we’d go for the 1.4 or 1.6 if you want a bit more oomph.
